I am a mother here in San Francisco pissed that the pre-school system is BIASED AGAINST working parents with healthy children.
I have been turned away from school after school after school TRULY because I work, and TRULY because there is NOTHING wrong with my Kid mental or physical. I DO NOT get beat, I AM able bodied. I AM NOT on drugs. I LIKE to work – willingly believe it or not. And I’m a VALUED employee, because I MUST keep my job – And WE get turned down – Where did we go wrong? What am I doing wrong? Working American Parents with Healthy Children – Head Starts requirement is zero income. How does one MAINTAIN zero income? Why would one need child care if they’re earning ZERO INCOME? Why is a taypayer of these very programs INELLIGLBE for them? Why should my kid be in a DEROGATORY mental / physical condition to get some coverage? Broadcasting their roster of gimps must look better when wring their grants to the City and State or Feds?
I didn’t post part 3, yet, that says I make $ 13.50 and hour and I am FOR supporting those in need, I am human too, my baby is not PERFECT, no human ever was (challenge me on this)…Stay tuned for part 3!

Head Start is a program that is designed to counteract the possible negative effects of impoverished families, based on the data that suggests that lower income children do worse in school. Whether it is successful is another question entirely.
I personally think it is a bad program. I have a cousin who refused to work, so that her kids could get into Head Start.
A better idea would be state-funded or federal-funded preschool and full-day kindergarten programs for all students.
