I Need Advice for My Future Career, Can YOU Help Me?

Question by tattii: I need advice for my future career, can YOU help me?
Hey guys,
so this is my story.

I am 19 years old and i really like the medical field. Healthcare is my passion!
So i have been in a community college for like around 1 1/2 or so and its been so hard to register for the stupid pre-requisites for nursing. Niether the advisors dont know what the current pre-requisites are or the classes are full, even if i register like a month in a half in advanced, It really bothers me. I want to become a nurse atleast and i feel like all my doors are shut. I got accepted to great universities but i dont have money. I am alone and my parents cant help me not even with a book. Loans are not enough to cover a 4 year. I live in chicago and its PRICEY!!
Therefore this semester I was able to register for some pre-requisites the thing is that the semester is almost over, finals are coming up and i have to get surgery. Furthermore, i have to get an INCOMPLETE to take the finals and missing assignments. I cant register for other prerequisites until i pass the INCOMPLETE courses. Which would be a year from now to get into the other classes ughh! Doctor told me i needed to get pregnant soon after recovery because their signs that my uterus may not last long. I want to able to have a good paying job within the next year or so to be able to mantain a baby. Even though i want to do nursing, i was thinking if i have to have a baby maybe i should just do medical assistant with an associates degree. Maybe later i can continue to go to school for nursing. IDk… sorry its alot but if you guys can help me or give advice i would appreciate it..

THANKS guys ahead of time.. 😉

If nursing is where your heart is, perhaps consider doing a 9 month to one year full time LPN program. Usually there are only a few classes needed as prerequisites and they are offered at community colleges, so they tend to be fairly affordable. You can then wait until your baby is old enough and you are in a better financial situation to go back for about a year and get you RN. LPNs are generally paid better than medical assistants and there is a more direct route into nursing, where as if you become a medical assistant, none of those courses count toward your RN. If you need to know the exact requirements for a nursing program, LPN or RN, try checking directly with the nursing department rather than the general couseling office. Classes filling up too fast is a common problem with inner city and popular suburban community college, try enrolling on the very first day of early enrollment, at most schools I have gone to it is several months prior to the start of the semester (may for the fall semester, and early october for spring semester) or if your school has strict payment deadline, check after people are dropped for non-payment.

LPNs are hired to work in doctors offices, clinics, nursing homes, rehab (both physical and drug)center, prisons, some hospitals, and home health agencies. There is a great website that is for nurses and nursing students that can give you information about the job market in your area, as well as schools, etc. http://allnurses.com/

Good luck with your surgery and your future career.
