Is the Notion of Romantic Love a Scientifically Proven Fact?

Question by Wayne: Is the notion of romantic love a scientifically proven fact?
Or the mere stretching of your finite imagination. I read in psychology magazines that romantic love is nothing but a form of addiction so when you claim to fall under its spell, you activate the same receptors in the brain that are associated with drug abuse, narcissism and other obsessive-compulsive behavior.

By association, the person you’re in deep love with is just somehow able to trigger those chemical reactions and staying away from him/her for a long time, you’re actually able to cure yourself.

Answer by Girlfriend in a Coma
I think romantic love is a form of obsession or addiction, or both. I mean, everyone thinks my parents have this great relationship, but that’s because it’s now entirely platonic. They have no sexual intercourse. It seems most relationships either evolve into a strong friendship or fizzle out. If you think of how fickle people are, how quickly they move from one obsession to another, it makes sense that ‘love’ never works out.
